What product is involved?

The Bionaire oil filled heater Model BOF2001-CN and the Sunbeam oil filled heater Model SOF1000-CN. The Bionaire BOF2001-CN comes in black and the Sunbeam SOF1000-CN comes in grey. The only heaters affected have the following date codes on the plug prongs: G170, G179 or G229.

Why are you recalling this product?

The heater may pose a scald hazard due to heated oil spraying out of the heaters during use.

Where were these products sold?

The Bionaire BOF2001-CN was sold in Canada, at prices ranging from $69.99 to $99.99. The Sunbeam SOF1000-CN was also sold in Canada, at prices ranging from $59.99 to $69.99. Both heaters were only sold in stores from August 2014 to November 2014.

How many heaters are part of this recall?

Approximately 564 of the Bionaire BOF2001-CN units and 83 of the Sunbeam SOF1000-CN units.

Can I test the product on my own?

No. For your safety, please stop using the product immediately. Visit us at www.bionairecanada.com (for the BOF2001-CN) or www.sunbeam.ca (for the SOF1000-CN). You can also call (800) 515–4715 at any time for additional instructions. Eligible consumers will receive a recall kit containing a pre-paid label which will facilitate the return of a recall form and the cord (including the plug) from your heater. Once the appropriate contents have been received, a refund in the form of a check will be provided.

How did you become aware of this issue?

The issue came to our attention through reports of incidents.

How can I tell if my product is affected by the recall?

Only Bionaire oil filled heaters BOF2001-CN and Sunbeam oil filled heaters SOF1000-CN with the following date codes on the plug prongs: G170, G179 or G229 are included. To find the model number of your heater, please look on the rating label adjacent to the control panel on your heater. Detailed instructions, including photos on how to identify the model number and date code of your heater can be found at www.bionairecanada.com (for the BOF2001-CN) or www.sunbeam.ca (for the SOF1000-CN).

How do I tell if my heater isn’t involved in the recall?

Your model is not involved in the recall if the model number DOES NOT contain the characters BOF2001-CN or SOF1000-CN, and if the plug prongs do not have the following date codes: G170, G179 or G229.

What do I do if I have a recalled heater?

Please confirm your eligibility in the recall by visiting us at www.bionairecanada.com (for the BOF2001-CN) or www.sunbeam.ca (for the SOF1000-CN) or by calling (800) 515–4715 anytime for instructions. Eligible consumers will receive a recall kit containing a pre-paid label which will facilitate the return of a recall form and the cord (including the plug) from your heater. Once the appropriate contents have been received, a refund in the form of a check will be provided.

Once I have sent back in my kit with the appropriate contents, how long will it be before I will receive my refund?

Once the kit is received, it will take approximately 10 to 12 weeks to receive your check.

What needs to be returned to JCS?

The recall kit contains a pre-paid label to return the completed form and the power cord (including the plug) of your Bionaire Model BOF2001-CN or Sunbeam SOF1000-CN heater. You can find UPS dropoff locations by clicking here.
